Annemiek van Vleuten has announced she is expecting her first child later this year, marking a new chapter in her life two years after retiring from professional cycling. The former world and Olympic champion shared the news on Instagram with a photo taken during a mountain holiday with her partner, Oscar Abad.
“Our last holiday with the two of us, because in September we will be with three!” she wrote, proudly showing her baby bump against the backdrop of the Italian Alps in Lombardy.
The father is Spanish former amateur cyclist Oscar Abad, with whom Van Vleuten has been in a relationship since 2022.
Van Vleuten retired from racing at the end of 2023, capping a glittering career that included four world titles, twice in the road race and twice in the time trial, and Olympic gold in the time trial at the Tokyo Games. She has since taken up a performance management role with Fenix-Deceuninck, supporting the development of young riders on that team.
