Annemiek van Vleuten’s farewell race calendar now public

Annemiek van Vleuten will conclude her career as a professional cyclist in September on home roads. The Dutch outgoing world champion announced this on social media to confirm the final races in her programme. Van Vleuten’s last race as a professional rider will be the Simac Ladies Tour between 5th and 10th September 2023.

“It was an honour to wear the rainbow jersey in my final year. The World Championship will not be my last race. I will conclude my career in September with my team, Movistar.” Van Vleuten says.

It is now known which race will be her last. Firstly, the Dutchwoman will compete in the Tour of Scandinavia from August 23rd to August 27th. Van Vleuten’s final race will be the Simac Ladies Tour, scheduled from September 5th to 10th 2023. After that, the current world champion’s career will be over.

“Unfortunately, there are no other races on our calendar that really appeal to me or that suit me. But I didn’t feel like stopping after the Tour. I still feel like racing.” Van Vleuten stated on her website.

Van Vleuten also suggests that she won’t win the World Championships road race this season as the team is focused on Demi Vollering as the leader – a rider for whom Annemiek recognises has better strengths for this year’s course.
