Aude Biannic to return to Movistar Team in 2025 after maternity leave

Aude Biannic, currently five months pregnant, is set to rejoin the Movistar Team in 2025, the team announced during their participation in the Brittany classics of the WorldTour. The Breton rider, who is expecting her first child at the end of 2024, will resume her cycling career with the team after taking maternity leave.

Biannic, who has been with Movistar since its inception in 2018, shared the news of her pregnancy earlier this summer, marking a temporary pause in her notable cycling career. The 2025 season will see her don the blue jersey for an eighth consecutive year, continuing her role as a key domestique in the peloton. Over the years, Biannic has competed in 9 Giros, 2 Tours, 2 Vueltas, and 11 World Championships, making her one of the most experienced and reliable riders on the team.

Reflecting on the moment she discovered her pregnancy, Biannic said, โ€œI found out I was pregnant on my way home from the cobblestone classics. It was a big surprise, but a very nice one. In truth, I was a few weeks late with my period, and I waited until I got back to take the test and stay focused on races that were important to me.โ€

She described her pregnancy as peaceful, without any significant discomfort or illness, although fatigue is now beginning to set in. โ€œI can still enjoy cycling, and I am adapting my outings and my daily routine to how I feel,โ€ she added.

Biannic also expressed her gratitude towards Movistar Team, highlighting the strong relationship she has maintained with the squad. โ€œWith Movistar Team, everything has been very easy these past few years. We have had total mutual trust and the decision to continue for another year was the normal rhythm of things. I am still in contact with many of the girls and the staff. It makes me happy to have them around every day, to keep in touch, to feel included and for the topic of conversation to not only be cycling,โ€ she said.

Biannicโ€™s return will mark her eighth season with Movistar, the only rider to have remained on the roster since the team’s first season in 2018.

Biannic had originally said that her current contract would be her last in the sport in early 2023. The 2025 Tour de France Femmes start in Brittany is likely to have helped her decision to continue.
