The 2025 Tour de Feminin began with a new addition to its 36-year legacy – a team time trial opening stage. The Belgian national team made the most of the historic debut, flying around the 12.5km loop in Krásná Lípa in 18 minutes and 40 seconds. They beat Polish squad MAT Atom Deweloper Wroclaw by 12 seconds to take the first victory of this year’s race, and with it, the yellow jersey for Xaydee Van Sinaey.
Van Sinaey, who finished third overall in last year’s edition, was the fastest rider across the line for Belgium. That earned her the race lead and also the white jersey as the best young rider, on the eve of her 20th birthday. “I am very happy,” she said. “I gave myself a present for my twentieth birthday on Friday.” Reflecting on the conditions, she added: “Today was a bit wet and windy, but I like it here.”
Having already raced successfully around Krásná Lípa last year, Van Sinaey now leads into the first road stage. “We have a very strong team here,” she said, hopeful of defending the jersey across the weekend.
MAT Atom Deweloper Wroclaw took second on the stage, with Olga Wankiewicz rewarded with the green jersey as the leading rider in the points classification. Her teammate Karolina Kumiega, also part of the podium-finishing team, will wear the polka-dot jersey as the early leader in the mountains classification.
The third-fastest team, KDM-Pack Cycling, narrowly held off DAS Hutchinson, who impressed with a strong ride despite being involved in a crash earlier in the day. They still managed to finish fifth overall. The same couldn’t be said for CJ O’Shea and WV Schijndel, both of whom also suffered crashes that disrupted their rhythm and cost them valuable time.
Barbora Němcová was the best-placed Czech rider, finishing 50th overall. A total of 162 riders from 28 teams representing 23 countries started the race, including 103 debutants. Among the 18 Czech riders in the peloton were national champion Němcová for the Czech national team, Denisa Slámová riding for Torelli, and Barbora Nývltová representing Cycle Capital. Eliška Kvasničková also returned for the VIF team after her third-place overall finish in 2024.
Stage 2 takes the riders back out from Krásná Lípa into the heart of the Czech Switzerland National Park. The 121.5km route features five categorised climbs and two intermediate sprints, and is expected to shake up the standings as the race continues through the weekend.
