Boom: “We have completed an excellent Amstel Gold Race”

Soraya Paladin sprinted to a fifth place in Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race. Her chasing group caught the two escapees who had jumped away on the Cauberg. Marianne Vos won the Dutch classic.

“We have completed an excellent Amstel Gold Race. We opened the race with an attack by Pauliena Rooijakkers on the Cauberg a few laps from the end. That was a good move, because it was in our interest to make it a hard race. Pauliena was in the front at that moment. At such moments she can show that she is really strong”, says sports director Lars Boom.

“When everything came back together, we had a very strong pawn in the front group with Soraya Paladin. She looked very strong on the final climb of the Cauberg, although she could not keep up when Kasia Niewiadoma and Elisa Longo Borghini attacked. When they were caught in the last kilometre, Soraya was perhaps a bit too far behind. She was disappointed with her final sprint. But all in all, she did a great job.”
