Broken elbow for Pauliena Rooijakkers after a fall in training

Pauliena Rooijakkers

Dutch rider Pauliena Rooijakkers has suffered a broken elbow whilst riding and training. The Canyon SRAM rider will have her off-season interrupted but should be back with plenty of time ahead of the first major races of the 2023 season. The 29-year-old had a career year in 2022, taking Canyon SRAM’s only win of the season at Durango-Durango back in May.

“Unfortunately I crashed in training and that resulted in a broken elbow. I will therefore take it a bit easier in the coming weeks, in order to recover in no time.”

That Durango-Durango victory was the combination of a strong period where she’d finished 6th in Brabantse Pijl and 11th at both Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. After the Ardennes period, Rooijakkers was 2nd at Itzulia Women, 4th at the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge and 3rd in the Tour de Suisse.

The elbow won’t stop Pauliena Rooijakkers from riding indoors, however, and she has already been seen riding on Zwift.
