Broken hip setback for Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset after promising spring campaign

Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset

Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset will miss the Ardennes Classics and the Vuelta after fracturing her hip in a crash with 58km to go at Paris-Roubaix Femmes. The Norwegian rider from Team Coopโ€“Repsol astonishingly managed to finish the race in 71st place despite the injury, but the team posted today that after race scans confirmed the extent of the damage. Doctors at the hospital in Alst will assess whether surgery is required in the coming days.

The crash brings a sudden halt to what had been a strong and consistent 2025 season for Haugset, marked by a steady progression in results and a key role in the teamโ€™s early success.

A spring of breakthroughs

Haugset had been quietly impressive in the spring classics, finishing 38th at the Tour of Flanders and 11th at Dwars door Vlaanderen, where she was visible throughout the day. She also secured 16th at the Ixina GP Oetingen and was steadily building towards a more prominent role in the peloton.

But it was at the Vuelta Extremadura Fรฉminas in early March where Haugset truly shone. She finished 8th overall and fought for the win on stage 2, but finished 2nd that day in the end. Earlier in the year, at the Tour Down Under, Haugset finished 14th overall. The 22-year-oldโ€™s campaign has also included top-30 finishes at Clรกsica de Almerรญa and Schwalbe One Day Classic.

Her injury at Paris-Roubaix Femmes is a significant setback, particularly as the Ardennes suited her upward trajectory and ability to endure hard racing. With no confirmed timeline yet, her next targets may depend on the decision around surgery, but the hope will be to see her return later in the season without too much delay.

For a rider who was growing into a leadership role at Team Coopโ€“Repsol, the coming weeks will be about healing. Her 2025 form, however, has already underlined her value to the Norwegian outfit.
