How do you fold a Brompton Bike?

Step 1: Lower the Saddle to Begin

by flipping the bike’s rear wheel under the frame. To do this, release the seatpost quick-release lever, lower the saddle, and then secure the lever. The lowered saddle will act as a stable base when folding the bike.

Step 2: Fold the Pedals

Fold the right pedal by pushing the end of the pedal towards the bike and then folding it inwards, parallel to the bike frame.

Step 3: Swing the Rear Wheel

Release the rear wheel’s quick-release lever, located beneath the frame. Swing the rear wheel forward and under the bike, and the rear triangle will lock in place under the main frame.

Step 4: Lower the Handlebars

Release the handlebar hinge quick-release lever and fold the handlebars down towards the ground. Make sure the handlebars rest on the outside of the front wheel.

Step 5: Fold the Front Wheel

Release the main frame hinge quick-release lever, located at the centre of the frame. Fold the bike in half by bringing the front wheel towards the rear wheel, aligning the wheels, and allowing the front fork’s hook to engage with the rear frame.

Step 6: Secure the Fold

Attach the folding clamp, which is located on the rear frame, to the front fork. Tighten the clamp to secure the folded bike.

Unfolding the Brompton Bike

To unfold your Brompton bike, simply reverse the steps above:

  1. Release the folding clamp and separate the front and rear wheels.
  2. Lift the handlebars and secure the handlebar hinge quick-release lever.
  3. Swing the rear wheel back into its normal position and secure the rear wheel’s quick-release lever.
  4. Unfold the right pedal.
  5. Raise the saddle and secure the seatpost quick-release lever.
