Canyon-SRAM promotes Bauernfeind and Niedermaier from development team

Canyon SRAM has chosen to promote both Ricard Bauernfeind and Antonia Niedermaier from their Canyon SRAM Generation development team. Both take advantage of the new neo-pro status for Women’s’ WorldTour teams and will sign for 2 years.

For Bauernfeind, it’s a richly deserved move after an impressive season. She took a series of strong results, like 4th at GP de Chambéry, 3rd in the Ruta del Sol and 5th at the Thüringen Ladies Tour. Bauernfeind also become the U23 national champion in the road race and the time trial before winning the Mixed Relay U23 race at the European Championships. Later on in the season, the German was 3rd at the CIC-Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées and in the World Championships she took the bronze medal in the U23 standings. Finishing behind FIsher-Black and Georgi as part of the race within a race.

“I’ve had an amazing year and I’m super motivated for 2023. I still have a lot of things to learn. I hope to get even better as a rider, but also as a person.”

Antonia Niedermaier joins the main Canyon SRAM whilst still continuing in her ski mountaineering career. From January to March 2023, Niedermaier will race on the slopes and take part in the world championships for that sport. She will then start racing on the road after a short break. We may see her around the Ardennes classics. She impressed during the Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l’Ardèche, winning 2 stages and the overall classification.

“I am very excited about this new step. I look forward to racing with the ‘big’ team.”

“We are proud of the fact that two riders from our training team have grown into world-class athletes. They showed themselves regularly during the race this year, were on the podium more than once and were good for several victories and even World Cup medals.”
