Career overview
Achtereekte moved into professional road cycling after an elite speed-skating career that included Olympic 3000m gold at Pyeongchang 2018. She joined the Jumbo-Visma women’s cycling squad in 2022, bringing a deep endurance base and time-trial engine from the ice. Her road career included 2nd at La Picto-Charentaise in 2023 and victory at the 2024 Omloop der Kempen, alongside regular Women’s WorldTour race days with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Achtereekte announced her retirement from professional cycling in September 2025, closing a top-level sporting career that had crossed two endurance disciplines.
