Cecilie 6th at Tour of Flanders

Cecilie takes 6th place in the Tour of Flanders 2022

Today was one of the most epic of the classics, and it was after 158km and 11 mountains that Cecilie crossed the finish line in 6th position. The race was won by Lotte Kopecky (SD Workx). Grace finished 7th, and Brodie finished 9th after escaping on the Old Kwaremont.

Brodie, in the lead for part of the race, reflects on her day: “Today’s race was kind of a new race, quite difficult, with the Koppenberg, and all the crowds were back, which was really amazing! We had planned to weigh in in the final, and my job was to lead the tempo in the lead, with Cecilie, Grace and Marta behind. SD Worx turned out to be in great shape. A group of three formed in the lead after the Paterberg and yes, we are a little disappointed to have “missed the party” today. We can still remember that we rode very well together as a team. We really enjoyed Flanders.”

Grace, 7th in the race, tells us: “The Tour of Flanders went a little differently from what I expected. A large group broke away from the peloton before the Kruisberg. Luckily Brodie was there and she rode very hard to represent us. I felt good today and was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t follow Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx) and Annemiek Van Vleuten (MOV) in the Kwaremont. In the end, Cecille and I managed to attack from our chase group and join Brodie, but it was too late to catch the winning group.”

Marie looks back on her race: “There you go, the first Tour of Flanders finished. The legs weren’t necessarily there, overall it didn’t respond as I expected, but the team achieved very good results. So of course, we would have liked better, we came for better, but I think the girls can be really proud of themselves, because three girls in the top 10, that’s not nothing. I quickly felt that the legs weren’t there, that it was going to be difficult to weigh in the race, so I did my best to help them before the crucial moments. I’m happy to have taken the start of this race, the roadside atmosphere is really incredible!”
