Cofidis have confirmed that Victoire Berteau will not be racing in the 2025 Paris-Roubaix Femmes this Saturday. The French rider, who had been a key part of the teamโs plans for the event, is still recovering from a concussion and wrist trauma sustained in a crash at Dwars door Vlaanderen last week.
Team manager Arthur Quillec explained that, after consulting with the medical staff, it was deemed unwise for Berteau to race under the current circumstances. โWe tried to delay the decision as much as possible, but from a safety perspective, it was not feasible,โ said Quillec. โWe can’t risk racing Paris-Roubaix with a wrist injury.โ Despite the setback, Berteau has been back on her bike this week and remains committed to supporting her teammates leading into the race. Her focus is now on fully recovering before making her return to competition.
Though Berteauโs absence is a blow, the team is still motivated for the challenging race ahead, with Eugenia Bujak and Marion Borras stepping up as key figures. Bujak, a seasoned veteran, will lead the teamโs charge, with her ability to handle the cobbled sectors and maintain a steady pace throughout the race. Borras, who impressed in 2023’s edition with a 5th-place finish after a long escape, is also a strong option for Cofidis.
As Quillec explained, โWe will try to get a rider into the break if the opportunity arises, and we will seize any chances that come our way.โ The team is confident in their chances, especially with favourable conditions expected, including dry cobbles and helpful winds, which could make the race selective.
While Berteauโs absence is a disappointment, her team remains optimistic for the race and beyond, with plenty of opportunities still on the horizon this season.
