Dutch rider Riejanne Markus won Stage 4 of the 2022 Simac Ladies Tour with a late solo attack that couldn’t be caught. With 6km left
With two stages ending in sprints, it’s no surprise that Lorena Wiebes now has a pair of stage victories in this year’s Simac Ladies Tour.
The Simac Ladies Tour is the only Women’s WorldTour stage race in the Benelux this season. Formerly known as the Boels Ladies Tour, the race takes us across most of the Netherlands from the below sea-level areas to the hills of Limburg. The addition of a time trial will give the WWT peloton only its 2nd of the season
The Tour de France Femmes has a long and convoluted history. The first race that could be considered a Women’s Tour de France was the La Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, held in 1955. That race was won by the Brit Millie Robinson, who would also go on to be a women’s hour record holder. Held over 5 stages, the race ended up being a one-off event.
Officially this race is just called the Women’s Tour but may have to unofficially finally become the Women’s Tour of Britain. With the Tour de France Femmes coming, the original name all feels just a little too vague. The Women’s Tour is another race affected by COVID in 2020, but 2021 saw the race return, albeit in September rather than its usual timeslot of June.
