For Korevaar, the 2024 season marked her tenth as a professional cyclist. The 28-year-old Dutch rider has embraced her role as a key player within Liv AlUla Jayco, often stepping into the position of road captain. Reflecting on the year, Korevaar explained how her experience has allowed her to grow further within the team.
โIโve really enjoyed this year, which is important for me to be able to perform well. Iโve seen myself and the team grow during the races from the beginning until now. The progress is really important,” she said, recognising the development sheโs witnessed both personally and collectively. Korevaar added, “This team is special because of its culture. We race with a plan, and everyone is committed to that plan.”
Looking ahead, Korevaar hopes to continue making an impact during the spring season, focusing on sprint finishes and more aggressive racing. “In the coming years, I want to improve and achieve results together with the team,” she said, highlighting her ambitions to be at the forefront of future races.
Smulders continues her rise
For 23-year-old Silke Smulders, 2024 was a breakthrough season. After being called up late for the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, she made a strong impression with her consistent stage performances. Smulders’ season was capped with victory at the Vuelta Ciclista Andalucia and a 13th place finish overall at the Giro dโItalia, showcasing her potential and drive.
โThis year I made huge steps as a rider, thanks to the support of the team in all different areas,โ Smulders said, reflecting on her standout year. โI just feel in my place here at Liv AlUla Jayco surrounded by hardworking, positive people. I feel very lucky to be a part of this team.”
With two more years to build on her 2024 progress, Smulders is eager to take on more leadership roles, saying, “I want to keep building over the next two years like I did this year and be a key asset to the team and dare to take opportunities to win.”
Ton fights back from injury
Quinty Ton faced a challenging start to her 2024 campaign, suffering an injury that kept her out of action for the first half of the season. However, once she returned to racing in May, Ton quickly regained her form. Her second-place finish at the Vuelta Ciclista Andalucia was a major highlight as she helped the team across various race situations.
Reflecting on the difficulties of her early season, Ton said, โโ Despite a nasty start to the season, which left me out of action for the first half, the team has given me a lot of confidence and support.” With the support of the team, she has managed to recover and is looking ahead to 2025 with optimism. “I hope to be of value for both the GC riders and the sprinters in their hunt for victories,โ she added.
Teamโs Thoughts
General Manager Brent Copeland expressed the importance of securing the trioโs future with the team, praising their contributions throughout 2024. โRenewing the contracts of these three riders was very pleasing for us. They have all, in their own right, given a lot to the team this year,” he said.
As Liv AlUla Jayco continues to build its roster, the team will be counting on Korevaar, Smulders, and Ton to play pivotal roles in shaping its future successes. Copeland concluded, โWeโre hoping for big things in 2025 and weโre very happy to keep these three talented riders onboard.โ
