Afghan national champion Fariba Hashimi is set to make history in 2025 as the first Afghan rider to ride for a team in the Women’s WorldTour. The 21-year-old will join Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling for a one-year contract, after impressing with her results in 2024

The German WorldTour team announced the news via Twitter, stating, “We are delighted to announce that Afghan national champion Fariba Hashimi will join the team for 2025. She becomes the first rider from Afghanistan to reach the Women’s WorldTour.”

Hashimi’s rise to prominence comes after a string of impressive performances in 2024. She claimed a historic victory in the queen stage of the Tour de l’Ardèche, finishing on Mont Lozère. This triumph made her the first Afghan woman to secure a UCI win. In addition to her stage win in France, Hashimi delivered consistent results in other stage races throughout the season. She finished eighth in the Tour de l’Avenir Femmes and achieved a tenth-place overall in the Giro Mediterraneo Rosa. These performances underlined her growing reputation as a promising rider in the women’s peloton.

The Afghan rider also represented her country on the international stage, competing at the Olympic Games in Paris and the World Championships in Zurich. Hashimi’s signing is a landmark moment for Afghan cycling and adds another important cog to Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling’s roster for 2025. The team has had a large refresh over this off-season, with many established stars leaving, like Marta Lach to SD Worx, and new ones joining in their place.
