Giro Rosa: “We tried, but we were not present enough at the decisive moment”

In the third stage (137 kilometres) from Casale Monferrato to Ovada, there was unfortunately no main role for Liv Racing. Four riders got away from the peloton early in the race and held on until the finish line. Marianne Vos was the fastest of the quartet. Sofia Bertizzolo finished just outside the top ten after the sprint for fifth place.

Sports director Eric van den Boom: “On the first climb a group with Sabrina Stultiens broke away. Unfortunately, the peloton blocked the attack. Then there was another breakaway. First with two riders, then two more joined them. We should have been part of it. But secretly we hoped on the cooperation at the front not being optimal, because Marianne Vos – fast in the sprint – was in that group. But the four of them rode on and the pace of the peloton did not increase. Then you know you can’t make it up.”
