UAE Team ADQ has continued to build for the future, confirming a two-year contract with Italian climber Greta Marturano. The 26-year-old from Lake Como, who has spent recent seasons with Fenix-Deceuninck, joins UAE Team ADQ as the team focuses on strengthening its line-up for 2025. Known for her team-oriented mindset, Marturano brings valuable experience to the team, having proven herself in both challenging stage races and supportive roles.
Reflecting on her choice, Marturano cited the cohesive team dynamic at UAE Team ADQ as a key reason for her move. โI chose to join UAE Team ADQ for the next two seasons because I really like their team spirit,โ she stated. โThey race united, always working together to achieve the best possible result. I love this team-first approach that Iโve observed over the years. Plus, having top-level athletes by my side will be a huge motivation for me to give my best.โ
The Italian has a strong cycling heritage, influenced by her parents’ involvement in a youth cycling team. Starting to ride at just six, her journey was almost pre-determined. Describing her own style, she explained, โAs a rider, Iโm a climber, but I also enjoy rolling terrain. However, I perform best on tough routes: the harder they are, the better. In these conditions, I have a greater chance of achieving a strong result in a reduced sprint.โ
Marturanoโs 2023 season was a mix of highs and challenges. She secured a top ten finish in the Italian National Road Championships and contributed in stage races before health issues after the Giro dโItalia impacted her performance in the latter half of the year. โThe first part of the year went really well; we worked hard to achieve the best possible results,โ she commented. โUnfortunately, after the Giro dโItalia, I faced some health issues that prevented me from performing at my best in the second half of the season. Now itโs time to rest, but Iโm excited and ready for this new adventure with UAE Team ADQ.โ
Looking forward, she expressed a clear focus on development. โI definitely want to work on my weaknesses and improve my strengths because I know I still have a lot of potential to develop,โ she said. โMy main goal is to maximise my potential, as Iโm confident this is the only way to achieve the best results and, most importantly, to support my teammates effectively. Of course, winning a race is always a goal, but weโll see how the season unfolds.โ
