Imogen Cotter (Retired)
Imogen Cotter is a retired Irish cyclist and former national road race champion whose career took her from Ireland’s track programme into the European professional peloton. A late entrant to competitive cycling, Cotter progressed rapidly after switching from running and became Irish road race champion in 2021. Her professional career was heavily affected by a serious training collision in Spain in 2022, but she returned to racing before ultimately retiring in 2024.

Career overview
Cotter switched to cycling through Cycling Ireland’s talent transfer programme in 2017 after previously competing in running and triathlon. She moved into Belgian road racing and earned a stagiaire opportunity with Ciclotel in 2020 before winning the Irish national road race title in 2021 and securing her first full professional contract with Plantur-Pura. Her career changed dramatically in January 2022 when she was hit head-on by a driver while training near Girona, suffering serious injuries that required multiple operations. Cotter returned to racing with Fenix-Deceuninck Development Team in 2023 and joined Hess Cycling Team for 2024. She announced her retirement from professional cycling in April 2024, bringing an end to a career defined by rapid progression, national championship success and a determined comeback from major injury.
