Jackson powers to second place in Drentse 8

Echelons dominated the Drentse 8 on Friday afternoon. Alison Jackson was always in the first group and took her first podium spot of the season.

Last year Canadian champion Alison Jackson put down good results in the Drentse 8 and Ronde van Drenthe. Friday Jackson continued to perform good on the cobbles in Drenthe. She was alert when the echelons were formed and stayed in the front group the whole day. In the final Jackson was in the decisive group of 4 riders which battled for the win. In a sprint Jackson finished second behind Christine Majerus.

It was the first podium spot for Jackson in the 2022 season. “The race was hard from the start with all the wind. Echelons were formed and I stayed in the front. In the finale I jumped with the right group. I covered a lot of moves in the final local lap as I was the best sprinter there. Maybe I did a little bit too much. In the sprint it was close between Majerus and me, but she took it. I am really happy to take my first podium so early in the season. It is a good start of the year with the team and I am excited what we can do in the upcoming races.”

Tomorrow Jackson, Valerie Demey, Amber van der Hulst, Marta Jaskulska, Jeanne Korevaar and Quinty Ton (who takes the place of Silke Smulders) will take the start in the Ronde van Drenthe.
