Katia Ragusa in day`s breakaway

The seventh stage of the Giro Donne brought the riders to the Passo Maniva. A large breakaway with Katia Ragusa animated the stage.

After the hills in stage six the peloton had to climb the Passo Maniva (10 km, 7,8% average) at the end of stage seven. Early in the stage a group of 14 riders incuding Katia Ragusa escaped from the peloton. The group with Ragusa took a nine minutes lead, but with the final climb coming up the gap dropped to a few minutes. On the final climb all escapees were caught, except Juliette Labous who took the stage win.

“Our goal was to be in the breakaway today, so we could anticipate for the final climb. It was very nervous in the beginning, because you know the breakaway can go from the first kilometre. After 10 kilometres the group went and I was there in the front. It became a very long day in the front. On the final climb I missed the legs a bit, but it was nice to be in the breakaway today”, Ragusa told after the stage.
