Kuijpers: “Timing of the fracture is a blessing in disguise”

Evy Kuijpers is working her way back after her unfortunate crash in the final stage of the Festival Elsy Jacobs, where she suffered an elbow fracture last Sunday. On Tuesday, she successfully underwent surgery in the hospital in the Netherlands.

“The surgery went very well. It is now a matter of recovering. Fortunately, that is going well. I have to feel for myself what the limits are. In the meantime, I can now carefully bend and straighten the elbow again. Soon, I will make my first ride on the Tacx. In four to six weeks’ time, I will go back to the hospital for an X-ray. Then it will be clear whether the elbow has healed as expected.”

Kuijpers is not working on a quick return to competition. “The Festival Elsy Jacobs was my last race of a block for the time being. I was not planning to race for a while anyway which is a blessing in disguise. It gives me the time and rest to fully recover towards the autumn. As of August, there are important races on the programme again that suit me well.”
