The 2025 Midwest Classic is a new race on the calendar for this season. Starting on the outskirts of Gent and with a finish in Oostrozebeke, the centre of a Belgian triangle including Kortrijk, Roeselare and Waregem, it’s firmly in the heartlands of Flemish cycling. With no UCI history, there’s not a full picture of how this race will unfold but the parcours suggests a fairly decent-sized bunch sprint. The only obstacle on each of the finishing laps is the 31m high Ketelberg. Enough to test the legs and be attritional but shouldn’t decide the race unless someone is feeling particularly strong.
Volkerwessels and Cofidis are the highest-level teams racing this 1.2 race, and both will have sent their main squads to Sanremo Women yesterday. 9 Continental Teams and a further 9 Club Teams make up the rest of the peloton. Scarlett Souren and Victoire Berteau are the only 2 riders ranked within the top 100 of the UCI rankings to attend which means there should be plenty of opportunities for riders who often have to work in service of leaders to get their own results here.
