Marianne Vos starts cyclocross season in Nacht van Woerden

Marianne Vos

We don’t have long to wait to see the rainbow stripes this cyclocross season. With the majority of her rivals now either down to race or have kicked off their campaigns (maybe Pauline Ferrand-Prévot is the only exception), Vos will begin hers on Tuesday 25th October 2022. It’s the first cyclocross race for Vos since she won the title in Fayetteville in January 2022. She will head to Woerden, outside of Utrecht, to race the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden race.

For Vos, it’s a chance to show off her 8th cyclocross world champion jersey which came after a long break of 8 years. After winning her first title in 2006, she was untouchable for 6 years between 2009 and 2014. We are unlikely to see a repeat of her battle with Lucinda Brand but it should prove a useful warm-up before the bigger races. Plenty of other big names will be racing according to the start list. The likes of Shirin van Anrooij, Aniek van Alphen, Kata Vas, Puck Pieterse, Manon Bakker, Ellen van Loy, Maud Kaptheijns and even Lorena Wiebes are down to race.

Before starting her cyclocross season, Marianne Vos will also contest the national gravel championship in Epe this Saturday. With no Demi Vollering racing this year, it’s a chance for a new name to take over this new national championship that was held for the first time in 2021.
