Marta 4th in stage 7 of the Giro

Marta takes 4th place in the stage at the top of Passo Maniva

Today, the stage started in Prevalle, starting with 3 laps of the 13-kilometre circuit around the town. Then the route of the day gained height by heading towards the Passo Maniva culminating at 1742 meters above sea level.

The breakaway of the day formed early in the day with Emilia Fahlin in it for the team. This will have counted more than 8 minutes ahead of the peloton. Peloton that never saw Juliette Labous (DSM) again who escaped 7 kilometres from the finish and crossed the line alone. Behind, the battle between the first three in the general classification, Annemiek Van Vleuten (Movistar), Mavi Garcia (UAE Team ADQ) raged on the slopes of Passo Maniva and the latter crossed the line respectively in 2, 3 and 4th position.

Marta thus retains her third place in the general classification of the Giro Donne, and her “Azzura” jersey as the best Italian.

Marta looks back on her stage: “The climb was difficult but the team managed to set a good pace from the start of the climb and I was able to follow the riders who were contenders for the general classification. Overall, it was a good day because we were in the breakaway and we did our best the whole race. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s stage!”
