Maxim Van Gils has joined Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe on a three-year deal, marking a new chapter for the 25-year-old Belgian after seven years with Lotto Dstny. Van Gils, who terminated his contract with the Belgian squad last month, expressed his excitement about the move.

“I am proud to be of interest to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe,” Van Gils shared. “I felt a special connection with the team from the very first moment. Now I want to work hard with them to achieve big goals. My adventure with the new colours starts tomorrow!”

Van Gils will join the team at their training camp on Tuesday. Despite earlier contract extensions with Lotto Dstny, financial constraints following the departure of co-sponsor Dstny paved the way for his move. Teams such as Astana Qazaqstan and INEOS Grenadiers reportedly showed interest, but Van Gils opted for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.

This year saw Van Gils excel in major one-day races, including podium finishes at Strade Bianche and the Ardennes classics. Team manager Ralph Denk commented on the new signing: “Maxim has delivered top results from spring to autumn. It’s not by chance you finish on the podium at Strade and in the Ardennes, especially at such a young age. Weโ€™ll develop this further with our performance structure.”

New opportunities at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe

At Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Van Gils is expected to shine in hilly one-day races, where he will likely have leadership opportunities. Riders such as Primoลพ Rogliฤ and Aleksandr Vlasov remain focused on stage races, leaving space for Van Gils in the climbing classics.

The team has also strengthened its roster for 2025 with signings including Oier Lazkano, Jan Tratnik, and Mick and Tim van Dijke, who are set to bolster their performances in the Flemish classics. Speaking ahead of his debut, Van Gils said, “Now I want to work hard to achieve big goals.”
