Niamh Fisher-Black, a rising New Zealand cyclist, has signed a three-year contract with Lidl-Trek, marking a new step in her career. The 24-year-old will race with the American team until 2027.

Fisher-Black shared her excitement about joining Lidl-Trek, saying she has always admired their style and professionalism. “Lidl-Trek have long been an attractive team to me, I admire their aggressive style of racing and professional approach. Itโ€™s been noticeable even from the outside; their commitment to their riders, rider development and keen plans for the future,” she said.

She also spoke about how impressed she was during her first talks with the team, particularly with their innovative approach and strong team spirit. “In my first talks with the team I was quickly attracted by the innovative approach and the belief they had in their goals and how I would fit into that plan,” she added.

Since turning professional in 2020, Fisher-Black has quickly adapted to racing in Europe. In her first season, she won the national road race title in New Zealand and later became the Under-23 road race World Champion in 2022. She has also won stages in major races like the Tour de Suisse and the Giro dโ€™Italia.

Looking forward, Fisher-Black hopes to develop her skills in stage races and possibly aim for Grand Tours. “I intend to play a key role in the team and their goals. While personally, I have felt a steady incline in my development the last few years and of course, like any athlete, I hope to see that improve more. I am eager to explore my potential in GC riding, perhaps starting with shorter stage races and progressing to the Grand Tour lengths,” she explained.

Although she knows there will be challenges ahead, Fisher-Black is motivated and ready for whatโ€™s next. “I am very motivated for what the next few years may bring and my move into Lidl-Trek colours,” she said.

Lidl-Trek’s Team Manager, Luca Guercilena, is confident in Fisher-Blackโ€™s potential. He described her as a “standout talent with a bright future,” and said the team is excited to see what she can achieve alongside her new teammates. “Weโ€™ve been impressed by her development so far, and she is eager to continue on this upward trajectory,” Guercilena said.
