Swiss racer Noemi Rüegg is joining the EF Education-Cannondale team and is excited to take on the classic races. She has a love for the chaos and excitement of the spring races in Belgium, with a knack for getting to the front and powering over short, steep climbs. Noemi states, “I really like the classics. I am quite a punchy rider, so those races suit me really well. I like it when it gets hectic in the bunch and you have to be well positioned, as it is just going up and down all day and over the cobbles.”
Noemi began cycling to keep up with her older brother and fell in love with the sport at 13. She turned to road cycling, eventually earning a spot on the Swiss national team and signing her first professional contract at 19. Her impressive results include two podium spots at the Swiss national championships.
EF Education-Cannondale’s general manager, Esra Tromp, speaks highly of Noemi’s progression, saying, “Noemi is a super sweet woman, who has grown a lot in her personality as well. She is still super young, so she still has things to learn, but she is super motivated and eager to learn.”
Noemi’s goals include getting on the podium in a classic race and contributing to the team all year. She expresses her excitement about joining EF Education-Cannondale, saying, “I am really excited to join EF Education-Cannondale this coming year. I think it is a good step for me right now. The team seems like a really good fit, with a calm atmosphere. You really feel like the organization wants to grow a good women’s team and women are really important to them, not just the men. I feel like this is going to be a safe environment and I will be able to grow in a safe environment.”
Noemi’s signing with EF Education-Cannondale represents not only a significant step in her professional career but also a fitting match with a team that values her unique talents and personality. Her passion for the classics and eagerness to grow are evident and bode well for her future with the team.
It’s the second signing announced by the new team, with Veronica Ewers also confirmed.
