The Soudal Quick-Step team has confirmed that Remco Evenepoel sustained fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade, and right hand after a training crash earlier today. The 24-year-old was involved in a collision with a Bpost postal van in Oetingen, Flemish Brabant, while riding solo.
Following the incident, Evenepoel was taken to Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht, where his injuries were initially assessed. Soudal Quick-Step confirmed that he will now travel to Herentals Hospital for further evaluation alongside the team’s medical staff. “His injuries will be further assessed and the pathway for his recovery decided,” the team stated.
The crash occurred when the door of a postal vehicle reportedly swung open without warning, leaving Evenepoel unable to avoid the collision. Emergency services attended the scene promptly, transporting him to hospital under supervision.
