Ronde van Drenthe: offensive race by Liv Racing Xstra

The Ronde van Drenthe is one of the longest races on the women`s race calendar. In the 156 km of racing the riders had to conquer six sector of cobbles and four times the VAM-berg.

After the first ascent of the VAM -berg Marta Jaskulska went on adventure with Teuntje Beekhuis. The duo stayed in the front for some time, but were caught after a section of crosswind split the peloton and the first group took back Jaskulska and Beekhuis. With 33 km to go a new breakaway of five riders formed. This time Alison Jackson was there for Liv Racing Xstra. The gap increased to almost 40 seconds, but with the third ascent of the VAM-berg coming up the peloton speeded up and closed the gap. After the last climb of the VAM-berg four riders took off. The peloton caught the last escapee with 500 metres to go. In the sprint Lorena Wiebes took the win. Jackson was the first Liv Racing Xstra rider in a 16th place.

“In the final we had a little bad luck. Jeanne got a puncture at a decisive moment just before the final climb of the VAM-berg. She was ready to make a jump after Alison was caught earlier on. Now Alison was alone in the final kilometres and she had to gamble a bit for the right group. We did see some good things in the race, so that is something we can take to the next races”, sportsdirector Wim Stroetinga told after the race.
