Scarlett Souren triumphs at Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders

Scarlett Souren

Scarlett Souren from VolkerWessels Women clinched this year’s Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders title. The 20-year-old rider outpaced Evy Kuijpers of Fenix-Deceuninck in a sprint-a-deux to win the one-day race around Herentals. Sourenโ€™s teammate, Femke Beuling, completed the all-Dutch podium.

The third edition of the Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders saw the riders tackle six local laps around Herentals. The flat course featured the recurring challenge of cobblestones on Hoge Weg. The race, which began at 15:00, had many wondering who would follow in the footsteps of Eline van Rooijen, the 2023 winner. This year, Van Rooijen finished eighth.

Sourenโ€™s victory in Wout van Aertโ€™s birthplace is not her first of the year. The talented sprinter also won the final stage of the Tour of Poland, beating Anna van Wersch among others. The highest-placed Belgian rider was Sterre Vervloet of Lotto-Dstny, who narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place. It was a successful race for VolkerWessels, not picked for the Tour de France Femmes this year, the results here have allowed them to sneak a march on wildcards rivals Laboral Kutxa and Cofidis who are yet to score any UCI points in France this week.
