Spring Classics

The Spring Classics are my favourite part of the cycling season. What feels like a constant barrage of racing takes place between Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Paris Roubaix. Almost every few days between the end of February and mid-April sees a new race take place. Each weekend is packed with star names riding the biggest races.

These races often have some of the deepest history, Liège Bastogne Liège is known as La Doyenne (the old lady) in reverence to its running since 1892. Those legendary names that fall through the ages grace the winner lists as the races that continue to transfix us in the 21st century held the same appeal to people 70+ years before.

Strade Bianche, on the other hand, has only been run since 2007 but has achieved cult status very quickly. It gives Italy another Spring Classic as its other monument, Il Lombardia takes place in the Autumn.
