Strong race on the cobbles

A dry and dusty second edition of Paris-Roubaix Femmes, which was again a spectacular race. Liv Racing Xstra had two riders finishing in the top-25.

After four local laps of 8,3 km in Denain the peloton headed to the first cobblestones of the day. A group of five riders took a two minute advantage, but after some cobblestones sections the escapees were caught again. The Liv Racing Xstra riders maintained in the front of the race, only Silke Smulders hit the ground hard and had to abandon the race.

On Auchy-les-Orchies three riders managed to escape from the first peloton, which included Valerie Demey and Alison Jackson at that time. However it didn`t last long before the escapees were caught again. Then Elisa Longo Borghini took off and took half a minute on the chasers. Despite all efforts the Italian champion stayed away and soloed to the win on the velodrome of Roubaix.

Jackson and Demey were in the third group which battled for position 13. On the velodrome the Canadian champion took that place, with Demey finishing 21st. “We are satisfied with this race. It is too bad we lost Silke due to the crash, but the other riders rode a good race. Amber was caught behind a crash and lost some time there. Alison and Valerie had good legs and carried the flag in the final. This result gives us motivation for the next races”, sports director Wim Stroetinga told after the race.
