Susana Pérez gana en la prueba de la Copa de España en Abanilla (Murcia) y se coloca líder en la categoría sub-23

The weekend with two events of the Women’s Spanish Cup in Almería and Murcia could not have been more profitable for the UCI Rio Miera-Cantabria Deporte team as it has achieved two important victories. If on Saturday at Viator (Almería) Carolina Esteban prevailed commanding a historic triplet, on Sunday at the I Santa Ana de Abanilla Residence Trophy it was Susana Pérez who won in that Murcian town, also placing as leader of the Cup of Spain in the under-23 category. In addition, Lucía Ruiz was second in the junior category for the Rio Miera-Meruelo-Cantabria Deporte, repeating her position from the previous day, and the team took the classification by squads.

Elite/sub-23

Small skirmishes were attempted in the peloton in the initial stages, but the UCI Rio Miera-Cantabria Deporte team was attentive to bring them all down. The group rode compact but in the final part of the race, before the ascent to Alto Fuente del Algarrobo, Susana Pérez jumped out of the peloton with Cristina Barrajón and Irene Méndez. The three began to understand each other to collaborate and play for victory at the finish line. Susana, after having been third the day before in Almería, showed her good top speed and beat her two breakaway companions. As an added prize, Susana Pérez wears the leader’s jersey of the Spanish Cup in the sub-23 category with only three races to play.

Junior

The Rio Miera-Meruelo-Cantabria Deporte controlled the race from the beginning looking for victory at the finish line through one of its runners. Up to three, Carolina Leonardo and the Ruiz sisters, got into the final group that would play for victory. Lucía and Laura looked for a triumph in the final meters that they narrowly resisted. At the finish line Lucía was second and Laura fifth after a hard sprint uphill. Carolina arrived in ninth place, obtaining the necessary points so that her team, as on the previous day, took the classification by squads. Marta Beti also took the classification of the Flying Goals.

Cadetes

María Filgueiras rode at all times with the leading group, leaving a good feeling. In the end she could not finish her good race with a place in the box and she occupied the 7th place 7 seconds from the podium. The rest of the teammates did a great job with María Cabañas, Paula González, Beatriz Arruza and María Martínez entering the finish line together in the Top21. That earned the team to be third in the classification by squads of the day.

Roberto San Emeterio, the team’s Sports Director, was very satisfied with what had been achieved. The team “has done a great job controlling the race at all times. Susana has achieved a great victory and has also become the leader in the sub-23 classification. We will try to defend that position in the remaining three races as it is something that excites us a lot”. In the junior category “they have had a great race, once again taking the team victory and a second place with Lucía”. For him, “this weekend has been very good for the club so we are delighted with the work done”.
