Swinkels sprints to sixth place in final stage of Giro Donne

The Italian stage race ended with a flat stage of over ninety kilometres. Although two riders did everything they could to avoid a bunch sprint, everything came together four kilometres from the finish line. Swinkels was well-positioned by her teammates but fell just short in the last few metres to finish it off.

“I am thrilled with today. The ladies executed the plan to perfectionโ€, race coach Carmen Small said. “We wanted to start the lead-out early, as the last kilometres were quite technical. They started at exactly the right moment and positioned Karlijn well. Becoming sixth today is a great result for Karlijn.”

Team Jumbo-Visma can look back on a successful Giro Donne. Marianne Vos gave the team two stage victories earlier this week and the yellow and black brigade also showed its attacking intentions in the mountains. “It was a great weekโ€, Small said. “The riders gave everything and gained a lot of experience. The things we learned over the past few days we can take to the Tour de France, our next goal.”
