AG Insurance – Soudal has announced the addition of 18-year-old Tess Moerman to their team, marking a significant step in the young rider’s burgeoning cycling career. Moerman, who hails from Brakel, will make her debut with the team at the GP Yvonne Reynders on Thursday. This race will see competitors tackle six laps of a 21.9-kilometre course, totalling 131.4 kilometres.
Moerman’s journey into cycling began through her family, particularly inspired by her brother, Robbe, who competed at the junior level. “I got into cycling through my cousins, but especially through my brother Robbe. He started racing with the juniors at Onder ons Parike, and from that moment, I really wanted to start cycling myself,” Tess shared. Before cycling captured her heart, she was involved in athletics, but the shift to two wheels came naturally, with cycling running in the family.
Recognising herself primarily as a climber, Moerman spoke about the appeal of the sport, noting, “What I love about cycling is the challenge it brings and the fact that you constantly see yourself improving. It’s that growth that motivates me.” Despite her young age, she balances her training with a leadership role in the local youth movement ‘JeHo’ in Horebeke, which she finds fulfilling. “It gives me a lot of satisfaction and helps me find a good balance between sports and my role in the community,” she explained.
As she prepares for her debut, Moerman has clear goals for the future. “I mainly want to help the team, continue racing with joy, and develop myself further as a rider,” she stated. AG Insurance – Soudal expressed their excitement about Tess’s potential and look forward to her growth within the team.
