Third time lucky as Roseman-Gannon takes the final stage victory to secure the Santos Festival of Cycling title

Ruby Roseman-Gannon claimed the overall title in style at the Santos Festival of Cycling as she sprinted to victory on the third and final stage in Lobethal.

The 23-year-old finished off an impressive lead out by her Team BikeExchange-Jayco teammates to finally get her arms in the air after two tight second place finishes on the opening two stages.

Not content to sit back and defend her race lead, Roseman-Gannon went on the offensive on the stage as she briefly clipped off the front of the bunch with teammate Georgia Baker, after claiming the remaining one second time bonus at the first intermediate sprint.

A lone attacker then claimed the maximum bonus seconds at the next intermediate sprint, with Roseman-Gannon again picking up one second from the peloton behind. The race was eventually all back together on the final gravel sector as the pack prepared for the Ngangkiparri QOM inside the final five kilometres.

Roseman-Gannon displayed her strength once more as she crested the climb in second wheel before Team BikeExchange-Jayco amassed on the front of the peloton ahead of the upcoming sprint finish. There was no stopping the Australian criterium champion in the dash for the line as she powered to a convincing victory, securing the overall title in the process,

Ruby Roseman-Gannon:
“I think after the last two seconds I was pretty hungry, and my team every day, and especially today have been riding so, so well for me. There’s a lot of pressure when you have such a high calibre of riders riding for you, so I really felt the pressure today, I was really nervous, but I’m so glad I could finish it off, it’s a dream.

It’s absolute relief, it’s joy and relief. Everyone in my team is so good and I feel like I should be riding for them, not them riding for me and just every day they’re smashing themselves for me, so it means so much to actually finish it off for them. I’m really, really happy I could do that.”
