Ton and Neumanova abandon Giro Donne

Stage eight was not the best stage for Liv Racing Xstra. The team lost two riders and is now with four riders left in the race.

Czech champion Tereza Neumanova didn`t start in Friday`s stage as the consequences of her crash in stage 5. That wasn`t all bad luck for Liv Racing Xstra today. Early in the stage Quinty Ton hit the deck. The Dutch rider got back on her bike and tried to get back in the peloton.

“It was a hard crash, but you don`t want to give up in a big race like the Giro Donne. So I tried to continue and make my way back to the bunch. After some kilometres I talked with the sports directors and in consultation with them I decided to leave the race”, Ton told after the race. The Liv Racing Xstra rider went to the hospital for further examinations. In the hospital it became clear Ton suffered two broken ribs and a broken shoulder blade.

The other four Liv Racing Xstra riders reached the finish in Aldeno safely and will head into the final weekend of this Giro Donne. “Of course it is hard to lose two riders just before the final weekend. However there are still two stages to go. We will fight for every chance that we will get to show ourselves and go for a good results”, Giorgia Bronzini told.
