The 2025 Trofeo Alfredo Binda is set for its 26th edition with a host of changes, including a new start location in Luino, a tougher route, and a calendar shift to 16th March. All 15 Womenโs WorldTour teams will be on the start line, alongside nine other top squads, making this the strongest field yet. Meanwhile, the Piccolo Trofeo Binda โ Valli del Verbano, part of the junior Nations Cup, will see eight national teams take part, including a dominant British squad that has won the last two editions.

ToggleThe biggest change for 2025 is the move of the race start to Luino, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The parcours has been made more demanding, with an increase in altitude and distance, before finishing in Cittiglioโs Viale Valcuvia. The revised route will pass through 25 municipalities in the Alto Verbano region, all within the province of Varese.
The race will take place a week earlier than usual, shifting to 16th March to help accommodate the return of Sanremo Women to the calendar. With Italy now hosting three major womenโs races across consecutive weekends, organisers hope the reshuffle will strengthen the countryโs presence on the Womenโs WorldTour.
Two-time Trofeo Binda winner Elisa Balsamo was among the guests at the official race presentation in Luino. The Italian, who took victories in 2022 and 2024, was joined by track specialist Davide Plebani as organisers revealed the changes to the event.
Speaking at the presentation, race organiser Mario Minervino reflected on the eventโs growth over the years:
โTrofeo Binda is the only trophy in Italy entirely dedicated to womenโs cycling, a true jewel in the crown of this region. It begins with a training project in schools, and this year we have involved three municipalities and nearly 300 fourth and fifth graders.โ
Television coverage will also expand in 2025, with the race moving from RAISPORT to RAI 2 for Italian viewers, and additional international broadcasts will again be available via Eurosport and its various alternatives (like TNT Sports in the UK, Discovery+ and Max elsewhere). This change will bring the race to a wider audience, with Eurosportโs network covering more than 80 countries.
Safety improvements and logistical boost
The race will continue to place a strong emphasis on safety, with additional course protections and around 500 Civil Protection volunteers deployed along the route. Organisers have also secured the overnight stay of around 1,500 people across 29 structures, reinforcing the economic and logistical impact of the event on the local area.
โSafety is always central to our thoughts,โ Minervino emphasised. โWith SPM Sport, we have increased both the number and quality of route protections. I would like to thank the Police, the Institutions, the media, RAI and Eurosport, who are increasingly available to work with us.โ
