Victoire Berteau joins Canyon SRAM for 2027 after five seasons at Cofidis

Victoire Berteau will leave Cofidis to join Canyon SRAM for the 2027 season, bringing the German Women’s WorldTour team an experienced Classics rider who has also enjoyed one of the strongest campaigns of her career in 2026. The 26-year-old Frenchwoman has spent five seasons with Cofidis, winning her national road race title in 2023 and establishing herself as a regular contender in the northern one-day races.

Her arrival adds an important option to a Canyon SRAM squad being reshaped for next year. Berteau combines the endurance needed for long Classics with a quick finish from smaller groups, and her background on the track gives her additional experience of racing under pressure and working closely with team-mates.

The signing follows Cofidis’s confirmation earlier this month that Berteau would leave after representing the French team since the launch of its women’s programme in 2022. In reflecting on that period, she described the squad as part of her identity, making the switch a considerable change after five years with the same organisation.

Tour of Portugal and Giro Toscana wins underline her 2026 form

Berteau arrives at Canyon SRAM after a season that has added substance to her record beyond the Classics. She won the overall classification at the Volta a Portugal Feminina in July, holding her advantage through a difficult final stage in Santo Tirso despite being involved in a heavy crash. Team-mate Nadia Quagliotto was also caught in the incident, which took some of the celebration away from Cofidis’s overall success.

Less than two months later, Berteau returned to winning form at the Premondiale Giro Toscana Internazionale Femminile. She won the final stage at Capannori, where Quagliotto finished second, and secured third in the final general classification. The result offered a clear demonstration that she had recovered sufficiently to compete at the front again after the crash in Portugal.

She finished her road season with another podium at the Mirabelle Classic in September, taking third from a chasing group that had spent much of the race trying to close the gap to solo winner Gabriela Guerra. Berteau raced alongside Quagliotto and Nikola Nosková in the pursuit, but the breakaway remained clear. Guerra’s long-range victory left the chasers to contest the remaining podium places.

Those results give Canyon SRAM a recent record of victories and podiums to work with, rather than a rider whose standing depends entirely on past performances. Berteau has been competitive in stage-race classifications, selective finishes and reduced-group sprints, a useful combination for a team with ambitions across several different kinds of race.

A French champion with results in the northern Classics

Berteau’s reputation in one-day racing was established during her Cofidis years. She won the French road race championship in 2023, then produced a particularly strong spring in 2024, placing eighth at both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix Femmes, as well as fifth at the Ronde van Drenthe. Those results were earned in races where cobbles, crosswinds and repeated accelerations reward positioning and endurance.

Her 2024 season also included second places at the Grand Prix du Morbihan and Grand Prix International d’Isbergues, and a podium at the Grote Prijs Beerens. The variety of those finishes suggests a rider who can contribute to more than one race plan, either by following the decisive selection or by taking responsibility when an opportunity develops late.

There is also a track pedigree behind her road results. Racing with Marion Borras, Berteau won silver for France in the Madison at the 2024 Track World Championships, finishing only three points behind Denmark’s winning pair of Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Leth. That experience in a tightly contested points race reinforces the tactical awareness and endurance that are valuable on the road.

Where Berteau fits into Canyon SRAM’s 2027 rebuild

Canyon SRAM are entering 2027 with changes across their roster. Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney is leaving for Lidl-Trek, while Tiffany Cromwell has retired after a long career in the professional peloton. The team are responding by adding riders with distinct abilities rather than seeking one direct replacement for every departure.

Berteau follows the recruitment of Georgia Baker, another experienced road and track rider, and double Swiss road champion Steffi Häberlin. The team have also promoted Emily Dixon from the Canyon SRAM Generation squad, adding a young rider with climbing potential to the senior line-up.

For the Classics, Berteau’s value is easier to define than any proposed Grand Tour role. She has already shown she can survive the hardest sections of the cobbled races, contest a sprint from a reduced group and support more than one tactical approach. Her experience should also be useful alongside the younger riders who are still learning how to navigate the biggest events on the calendar.

The move gives Berteau a first season with Canyon SRAM after five years at Cofidis, and it gives her new team another rider capable of turning a selective race into a result. Her performances in 2026 suggest she joins with momentum, particularly after recovering from the July crash to win again before the end of the season.
