Alé BTC Ljubljana looks to the future and invests in young Italians riders Laura Tomasi and Alessia Patuelli

The Alé BTC Ljubljana team has decided to invest in two promising young Italian girls for the 2021 season.

President Alessia Piccolo‘s WorldTour team jersey will be worn by 21-year-old Laura Tomasi, from Top Girls Fassa Bortolo, and 18-year-old Alessia Patuelli, from the junior team Breganze Millenium, who will make her debut among the Elite next year.

The team manager of the Italian team Fortunato Lacquaniti explained: “Our project looks to the future with the intention of building a team a little younger and a little more Italian and this has encouraged us to invest in Laura and Alessia who are two talented girls and have shown that they have values and margins of improvement”.

Laura Tomasi, born on 1st July 1999, this year collected a couple of second places in Open competitions in Italy and already in 2019 she had two successes and a second place in Belgium, in the international Trofee Maarten Wynants.

The cyclist from Treviso expressed great desire to make herself available to the new team: “I chose Alé BTC Ljubljana because it is a very professional team, it is the only Italian team in the WorldTour and it will certainly give me great space to grow and learn. I don’t set myself precise targets for next season. For me racing with Alé means a big jump in the WorldTour and therefore it will be a big step to take and a completely new interface. I’ll try to learn as much as possible, to improve physically and try to be as competitive as possible to help my teammates. I hope to learn a lot from great riders like, for example, Tatiana Guderzo and Marta Bastianelli. I’m certainly very young, for me it will be my first jump in the WorldTour and so I’ll have a lot to learn”.

Alessia Patuelli, born in Imola on 22nd December 2002, in this 2020 she obtained three victories among the juniors and was also the best in her category at the Giro delle Marche in Rosa. She wore the ‘maglia azzurra’ at the European Road Championships and in the past she won several Italian titles also on the track.

These are her words: “When the opportunity to be part of Alé BTC Ljubljana presented itself to me, it was a great surprise and at the same time a great opportunity for me to be part of the WorldTour already in my first season as an Elite rider. Joining a great team like this will give me the opportunity to grow on a personal and athletic level and will also allow me to learn a lot for my future, thanks to the presence of top riders like Marta Bastianelli and Tatiana Guderzo. In my first year in the category I expect to learn a lot and help my teammates. I will also try to improve especially in climb and sprint so that I can always give my best in the race. I would like to thank all the staff of Alé BTC Ljubljana very much for this opportunity and for believing in me”.
