Marta Bastianelli (Retired)

Marta Bastianelli is a retired Italian cyclist who built one of the strongest one-day racing palmarès of her generation. She became elite road race world champion in 2007 and European champion in 2018, while also winning the Tour of Flanders, Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde van Drenthe and Brabantse Pijl. Bastianelli combined a powerful sprint with the ability to survive selective Classics and finished her professional career in 2023 with 44 victories.

Career overview

Bastianelli’s first major victory came at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, where she attacked to win the elite road race title. She later developed into one of the peloton’s leading Classics riders, winning Gent-Wevelgem and Brabantse Pijl in 2018 before becoming European road champion in Glasgow. Her outstanding 2019 season included victories at the Tour of Flanders, Ronde van Drenthe, Vårgårda and the Italian road championship. Bastianelli also won a Giro d’Italia Women stage, three editions of Omloop van het Hageland and the 2022 Festival Elsy Jacobs overall. She completed her final season with UAE Team ADQ in 2023, winning Le Samyn before retiring from professional racing in July.
