Canadian junior champion Alex Volstad, 18, is set to join EF-Oatly-Cannondale for the 2025 season. The promising rider, who shifted her focus from track to road racing this year, quickly made an impact with ten podium finishes across Europe and North America, including retaining her junior Canadian road title and adding the junior Canadian crit championship to her achievements.
Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Volstad first tried cycling at a local velodrome when she was 10, initially balancing it with speed skating. โI love the outdoors and exploring new places,โ she said, recalling how her passion for cycling grew beyond the track to include mountain biking, cyclocross, and road racing.
Describing herself as โa sprinter but a little bit punchy too,โ Volstad shared, โIโm developing into a classics type of rider.โ
EF-Oatly-Cannondaleโs general manager, Esra Tromp, praised her maturity and race-reading ability, noting, โSheโs a young woman on a mission.โ Tromp aims to support Volstadโs development with a programme tailored to her first year in elite racing.
Excited for the new challenges, Volstad shared her ambitions: โI just want to learn as quickly as I can, help my teammates, and pick up insights from experienced riders here.โ Joining a roster that includes Olympic champion Kristen Faulkner, Volstad is ready to take on the elite racing scene.
