Career overview

Van der Breggen is one of the most successful riders in women’s cycling history, with an Olympic road race title, world road race titles in 2018 and 2020, and the 2020 world time-trial title. She won the Giro d’Italia Women overall four times and dominated the Ardennes Classics, including seven victories at La Flèche Wallonne Féminine and the full Ardennes treble in 2017. After retiring at the end of 2021, she became a sports director with SD Worx-Protime before returning to racing in 2025. Her comeback restored her as a major stage-race presence, with podium-level performances at the Giro d’Italia Women and La Vuelta Femenina.
