The Giro Rosa started on Friday with a team time trial (16.8 kilometres) in Grosseto. CCC-Liv did not get any further than seventh place (20.47.00). The six riders gave in more than 40 seconds to the winning squad, Trek-Segafredo. “Considering the flat course, a few sharp bends and roundabouts, the team time trial was not very technical. The finishing time is a bit disappointing though. We all expected a little more to be honest. It went well during the trial, but unfortunately it just was not fast enough”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.

A tough second stage awaits the peloton on Saturday with the necessary climbing and two gravel sections. “The second unpaved one is particularly difficult. I expect a fairly closed race, but we will have to be constantly on the lookout for breakaways from competing teams. We hope to survive with as many riders as possible, and, who knows, maybe we can undertake something in the final. In principle, most of us should be able to manage this course.”
