Close to the UCI points in Eibar

The cyclists of the Rio Miera-Cantabria Deporte UCI team competed this Sunday in the IV UCI Women’s City of Eibar Grand Prix. After doing a good job a few days before in the Vuelta a Andalucía Women, the team arrived with a great desire to continue leaving good feelings in Eibar.

It was a busy race along the 112.3 kilometres of the route, especially in the mountain passes. In Itziar, Megas and San Miguel the race was decided. Precisely in the last ascent, Carolina Esteban could not link up with the leading group and had to play for the UCI points in a sprint with fifteen runners, of which only two had a prize. In the end Carol was 4th to take 27th overall putting back a good morning of cycling.

Susana Pérez and Laura Tenorio were unable to reach their partner’s group. Susana held on in that third group, Laura later dropping out. Susana was the 44th runner at the finish line.

Next appointment on Tuesday in Navarra

We will have to wait only two days to return to the competition. It will be in the Emakumeen Women’s Elite Classics that will be held in Navarra on the 10th and 11th. On Tuesday the 10th in Irurzun with 137 kilometres on the route meter, and the next day in Pamplona with almost 125km. The level of the rivals will be very high and the team will look for a good classification.

For Aida Nuño, Sports Director, “it was a pity that Carol couldn’t link up with the group in front to get some points that were valuable. She has made a great career, letting herself be seen with the best but the race at the end, with the last port, was very hard. Marta and Laura from behind have also tried. The balance is good after this demanding week”. Regarding the race in Navarra “we will repeat with four cyclists and Bea and Eva will enter as refreshments. We have a competitive team and we go with the desire to do well in this race that has a high level of participants”.
