Demi Vollering returns to racing at the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta

Team SD Worx looks strong for the 2022 Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta that starts on Wednesday 7th September. The Dutch team heads to Spain with a team of: Marlen Reusser, Lotte Kopecky, Anna Shackley, Niamh Fisher-Black, Blanka Vas and Demi Vollering. For Demi Vollering, the Ceratizit Challenge is going to be her first race since crashing out of the Tour of Scandinavia and suffering a concussion.

“I had to take it easy for two weeks, but in the meantime I can go full again in training. My form was excellent. You normally don’t lose that in two weeks. I have the feeling that the legs feel good again in training, but of course we have to wait and see how that will translate into a race.

This is a race where our team has to show off well. There are some tough stages in between. Marlen Reusser finished second in this race last year. Blanka Vas recently showed in Plouay that she is in good condition. You should always take Lotte Kopecky into account. She will be super motivated at the start.”

The Ceratizit Challenge lasts for 5 stages between the 7th and 11th of September and starts with a team time trial before climbing. 2 stages of solid climbing will help shape the GC before a punchy finish on Stage 4 and the flat Stage 5 in Madrid. The final stage should be the only opportunity for a pure sprinter to take a stage win and with no Lorena Wiebes, SD Worx’s Lotte Kopecky will be a favourite. The ProCyclingUK Ceratizit Challenge preview is here. For many of the riders, the Ceratizit Challenge is the last race before travelling to Australia for the World Championships in Wollongong. The time trial takes place on 18th September so the gap isn’t long at all.

“A five-day stage race at this point in the season is perfect and the course is challenging. It will be important to immediately set up a good team time trial on the first day and preferably to take some time there. With Marlen Reusser we already have an important weapon in our hands for that team time trial. She will certainly have her mind set on it.”
