Career overview
Merino was one of Spain’s strongest climbers of the late 2010s, building her reputation with Lointek before joining Movistar Team for the squad’s first women’s season in 2018. She won the 2017 Vuelta a Burgos Feminas overall and points classification, then became Spanish national road race champion in 2018. That same year, she finished 8th overall at the Giro Rosa, won a stage of the Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l’Ardèche and took 3rd overall there. Merino also finished 3rd overall at Ardèche again in 2019 and placed well in several Basque and Spanish one-day races before later spells with A.R. Monex, Le Col-Wahoo and Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi.
