Balsamo is one of Italy’s leading sprinters, combining a powerful road finish with a strong track background. She won the junior road race world title in 2016, then became elite road race world champion in 2021 after beating Marianne Vos in Leuven. Her major road wins include Gent-Wevelgem, Classic Brugge-De Panne, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, Giro d’Italia Women stages, Vuelta a España Femenina stages and The Women’s Tour stages. On the track, Balsamo has been part of Italy’s successful team pursuit squad, winning world and European titles. She joined Trek-Segafredo in 2022 and remained with the squad as Lidl-Trek, adding further sprint wins in 2025 and 2026.
