Emily Wadsworth sprints to third in Berlare

On Saturday Emily Wadsworth sprinted to third in the race in Berlare. This is her story:

The weather was so bad leading into the race, so all the corners were really slippy and being the in bunch was quite hectic. I thought that being in front would probably be less nerve-wracking, so I followed a move by Evy Kuijpers early in the race and another rider came with us. Then three others bridged across, and I realised that it meant we must have a decent gap.

We were away for over half the race so it was a long time, but we worked well together. The bunch were getting close on the final lap so we started sprinting really early. It was such a painful sprint but I managed to hold on for third.

I’ve never been in a breakaway before so it was a new experience for me, but I really enjoyed it. I’ve also never been on the podium in a road race before, so it felt pretty special to finally do that! It’s a good confidence boost heading into the next races.
