Kasia Niewiadoma took fifth place in the uphill finish on stage three of Vuelta a Burgos today. The CANYON//SRAM Racing rider was led into the final climb by teammate Soraya Paladin, almost closing the gap to the two leaders. A late breakaway saw Mavi Garcia (UAE) take the line honours with Kasia third from the peloton to place fifth on the stage.
Kasia said she was pleased with the result.
“I’m happy with the final result and the team performance today. After Liége-Bastogne-Liége I had to take a longer break than I had intended. I came into these Spanish races without a lot of proper work, but fresh and ready to help the team as best I could. With every passing day, my legs are coming back so that’s very motivating.”
CANYON//SRAM Racing started with just four riders when Alena Amialiusik and general classification favourite Pauliena Rooijakkers became ill following yesterday’s stage two.
Kasia said, “It’s a big pity that Pauliena isn’t here for tomorrow’s hilly stage, especially because she cared about it so much, and as a team, we did our best to save her energy on the first two stages. These things happen and we have to adjust and create a plan that will bring us a good result.”
“Personally, tomorrow’s long climb will be a good test where I want to do my best and see how much work I need to do before the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift to be one of the best climbers there. Tomorrow is simple; we will just go as hard as we can up that final climb.”
